Faculty of Biosciences and Aquaculture

The Faculty of Biosciences and Aquaculture is a leading academic centre in the fields of aquaculture, marine and agricultural sciences in Norway.

The Faculty of Biosciences and Aquaculture (FBA) is an international arena for education and research that addresses global challenges related to food production, climate, and the environment.

The faculty has staff and students from more than 30 countries at its campuses in Bodø and Steinkjer, and encompasses a wide range of academic perspectives and expertise. With around 800 students and 160 employees, FBA is a vibrant knowledge community that combines research, teaching, and innovation.

The faculty’s vision is to contribute to the development of a sustainable bioeconomy, reflected in both academic content and strategic priorities. Our mission is to serve as an international arena for education, research, and knowledge dissemination within aquaculture and ecology in the northern regions, supported by a unique genomics platform and strong interdisciplinary collaboration.

Our academic areas of research include Aquaculture, Ecology, Genomics, Livestock, Production and Welfare, and Algae and Microbial Biotechnology. Together, these efforts help generate new knowledge that strengthens sustainable resource management and the biological production systems of the future.
