Purpose: These guidelines have been developed to ensure that generative artificial intelligence (AI) is used in a responsible, ethical, and scientifically sound manner in research activities at Nord University. The goal is to ensure high quality in research while upholding research ethics principles and complying with applicable laws and regulations.
Scope: The guidelines apply to all research activities at Nord University and include both staff and students.
Preliminary provisions:
- All employees and Ph.D. candidates must complete a course in research eti
- Employees and students using generative artificial intelligence in research activities are responsible for staying updated on current guidelines and practices.
- Generative artificial intelligence can be used as a tool in the research process, but all usage must be specified and justified in the scientific presentation..
- Scientific content generated using generative artificial intelligence must undergo thorough quality control and comply with both internal and external research ethics guidelines to which Nord University is committed.
- When using generative artificial intelligence in scientific works, this must be clearly indicated in the methodology section. The description should include a detailed account of how generative artificial intelligence has been applied, the processes involved, and the measures taken to ensure the quality of the results. This includes guidelines provided by the publication channel.
- Generative artificial intelligence is not considered a reliable source of information without further verification. Generative artificial intelligence models are trained on large amounts of data from various sources that may be outdated, incorrect, or biased.
Information security
- When using generative artificial intelligence, applicable regulations and guidelines for information security, privacy, and copyright must be closely followed.
- Generative artificial intelligence solutions should not be used to process or store information that requires protection such as:
- personal data
- trade secrets
- copyright-protected material
- information subject to export control
About the guidelines
The guidelines are effective from 01.02.2025.
It is reviewed annually to ensure that it is always in line with technological developments and research ethics standards. The central administration is responsible for updated training, and relevant information is easily accessible to each employee and student.
