These performances feature a selection of short mask performances created by 2nd-year bachelor students. The pieces have been created by the students themselves and this presentation gives them the opportunity to test out this new material with a visiting audience. The work
Over the past few weeks, the students have explored the traditions of Commedia dell'Arte (Italian half-mask improvisation) experimenting with its style to reinvent it for a modern audience. Guided by their teachers, they have crafted their own masks and taken on the responsibility of devising, writing, and performing their own scenarios.
The world of commedia masks reveals the cruel comedy embedded within our human nature. Driven by blind passions and selfish desires, the masks bring the human struggle for survival and success vividly to life.
