Title:

Reconciling Ideals and Realities: The Dilemma of Social Entrepreneurship in Enhancing the Welfare of Marginalized Communities – Lessons from Nepall

Supervisors:

Main supervisor: Ove Daniel Jakobsen
Co-supervisor: Amsale Kassahun Temesgen
External co-supervisor: Ulrika Persson-Fischier

Short description:

This research examines how microfinancing, the predominant form of social entrepreneurship, has often fallen short of empowering marginalized communities in developing economies like  Nepal. Instead, how it has unintentionally exacerbated their social and economic challenges. By employing multiple units of analysis and drawing on interdisciplinary theoretical perspectives from economics, sociology, and entrepreneurship, the study aims to develop a holistic understanding of this phenomenon.
