Join us for an open seminar bringing together journalists, academics, and civil society actors interested in Ukraine. The event will offer a deeper understanding of the war in Ukraine, its political context, and its broader societal impact, while encouraging informed dialogue on Ukraine-related issues.
The seminar features Yuliia Surkova, a Ukrainian freelance journalist who has reported on Russia’s aggression against Ukraine since 2014 for Ukrainian and international media, including Agence France-Presse (AFP) and UNICEF. Yuliia focuses on human-interest stories and the humanitarian consequences of the war. She also mentors young journalists through the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine.
In her recent reporting, Yuliia has covered topics such as:
- Landmine dangers and demining efforts
- The impact of the war on children in frontline settlements
- Ukrainian farmers working near the front line
- Consequences of the destruction of the Kakhovka Dam
- Efforts to rescue animals from frontline areas
- Survival of Kyiv residents during the winter 2026 blackouts caused by Russian aerial strikes on civilian critical infrastructure
