Lending terms

Anyone over the age of 18 who resides in Norway can borrow books from the university library.

Borrowing regulations

  • Users must have a library card to borrow physical materials. The library card is personal and must not be used by others. A physical card or a library card in an app is accepted.

    • Students are automatically registered as borrowers at the library. The student card or the barcode in the student ID app serves as a library card.
    • Employees are automatically registered as borrowers at the library. Staff use their employee card as a library card.
    • External users residing in Norway may use the library’s services and receive basic guidance. External users are registered as borrowers in person upon presentation of valid identification.
    • Books, journals, films, and music: 28 days
    • Materials labeled “Day loan”: must be returned by 08:00 on the next opening day
    • Loans from other libraries (interlibrary loans) are subject to the lending terms of the owning library

Loans may be renewed up to a maximum lending period of 120 days

The user is personally responsible for borrowed materials. Users must ensure that all borrowed items are returned before the due date.

  • Loans are automatically renewed up to a maximum lending period of 120 days. If the material is reserved by someone else, the loan cannot be renewed. Day loans cannot be renewed.

In the Oria database, you can log in using Feide (the same login as Canvas) to view your loans and requests.

    Logging in to Oria:

    Login for students and staff:
    1. Go to Oria. You can log in in the top right corner of the website.
    2. Select the option “Feide” (for students and staff at Nord University or other institutions).
    3. Log in with your username and password.

Each time you log in from a new device or browser, you must select your affiliation. In your case, this is Nord University.

    Login for external users:
    1. Visit one of our libraries and create a library account. Remember to bring valid identification.
    2. Once your account is created, you will receive a library card and login information by email.

    • Each month you will receive an email with an overview of your loans.
    • A reminder is sent 4 days before the due date when the loan cannot be renewed (does not apply to day loans).
    • On the due date, you will receive an SMS and an email reminding you of overdue loans. If you do not return or renew your items, we will send additional reminders. If the material is still not returned, you will receive a notice of a replacement claim, and your borrowing privileges will be suspended.
    • If you receive a replacement claim, you can:
      1. Return the borrowed item before the payment deadline.
      2. Purchase a new equivalent copy for the library before the payment deadline
      3. Pay the replacement cost (the library will send an invoice to your email)
    • You must replace lost or damaged materials. The minimum charge per item is NOK 750. Students and external users will also be charged a fee of NOK 250 per invoice.
    • If the item is returned after a replacement claim has been issued, you must still pay the fee. You must adjust the amount on the original invoice to pay only the fee.
    • Unpaid replacement claims may be sent to debt collection.
    • If you have questions about reminders or replacement claims, please contact the library by email at ub@nord.no.

Borrowers with unpaid replacement claims or fees cannot borrow or renew loans until the amount has been paid.

  • In the Oria search portal, you can find books, journal articles, and other materials (both print and electronic) that the Nord University Library and other academic libraries have access to.

If a book or article is not available at your library or electronically, you can order/reserve the desired material. If you live near one of our campus libraries, you can order the book to that library. If you are taking online or part-time studies and live far from campus, you can request books to be sent to you by post. The university library can also borrow materials from other libraries in Norway and abroad if you need literature that we do not have (interlibrary loan). Day loans cannot be ordered or reserved.

The interlibrary loan service is only available to students and staff at Nord University and applies to literature needed for study or work purposes.
