Research Group for Visualisation

The Research Group for Visualisation at Nord University explores how complex ideas can be communicated through visual and interactive media.

Our work sits at the intersection of creative practice, digital technology, and research, using visual storytelling and emerging media to make knowledge more accessible and engaging.

Members of the group work across a broad range of visual formats and technologies, including animation, film, games, motion graphics, virtual and augmented reality, real-time visualisation, and interactive installations. The group brings together researchers and practitioners with backgrounds in creative media production, digital technology, education, and cultural heritage.

Through these projects, the research group investigates how visual media can support communication, learning, cultural engagement, and public understanding of complex topics.

The group also contributes to teaching and student collaboration within Nord University’s creative media programmes, providing opportunities for students to participate in research-informed production and interdisciplinary projects.

  • Our research often develops through collaborative projects with industry partners, cultural institutions, and educational organisations. Recent projects include:

    • Development of novel visual effects and production workflows, from low-budget prototyping to in-camera virtual production
    • Digital storytelling and visualisation for cultural heritage and climate awareness
    • Educational animation and visual learning resources
    • Immersive visualisation experiences

Through these projects, the research group investigates how visual media can support communication, learning, cultural engagement, and public understanding of complex topics.

The group also contributes to teaching and student collaboration within Nord University’s creative media programmes, providing opportunities for students to participate in research-informed production and interdisciplinary projects.
