TENDENS: Interdisciplinary Network for Social Philosophy and Ethics
The purpose is to be an open arena for discussion of fundamental questions about society and social relations in our own time, including broad cultural issues. Through meetings and seminars, the network will highlight influential ideas that have contributed to shaping our understanding of social structures and relations, facilitating discussion of texts from thinkers of our time who have contributed insights and thought-provoking reflections on contemporary social and cultural challenges. Through academic discussions, joint projects and publications, the goal is to make the faculty's education in philosophy and scientific theory more relevant.
The term “social philosophy” covers a broad field at the intersection of several disciplines and research areas, including the history of ideas, political science, political theory, sociology, ethics and philosophy of science. Social philosophy in the "classical" sense addresses topics such as justice and resource distribution, forms of power, identity and social recognition, as well as questions about trust and the conditions for relationships of trust in society. The field also includes culturally oriented and current questions and speculations related to the effects of major societal transformations (threats of war, poverty, climate crisis, digitalization) on social relations, social institutions and power structures.
Activities will be announced.
