Programme description

The Master’s program in Knowledge Management develops reflective practitioners with both theoretical understanding and practical skills to lead knowledge development and change processes. The core idea of the program is that learning is created through collaboration among students and through dialogue between students and academic staff. The program emphasizes work and development processes, with key topics including learning, strategy, digitalization, and creativity. This is an experience-based master’s program worth 90 ECTS credits. The program is part-time and organized as a series of in-person sessions at Nord University, Levanger campus. One session takes place at Copenhagen Business School (CBS) in Copenhagen. The focus on collective work processes and learning environments means that students are expected to attend the sessions. The program is a continuing education offer for leaders in all types of organizations and is adapted for people in full-time employment. Admission takes place every autumn, with the program starting in January.

A candidate who has completed the education has the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:

Knowledge:
The candidate

  • has advanced knowledge of organization and management, as well as specialized knowledge of managing knowledge work and knowledge processes in organizations
  • has advanced knowledge of current research, scientific theories and methods relevant to managing knowledge work and knowledge processes in organizations
  • can apply knowledge to new areas relevant to managing knowledge work and knowledge processes in organizations
  • can analyse professional issues related to the management of knowledge work and knowledge processes based on the subject area’s history, tradition, character and role in society

Skills:
The candidate

  • can analyse and relate critically to different sources of information and apply these to structure professional arguments and reasoning on knowledge, knowledge work and knowledge management
  • can analyse relevant theories, methods and interpretations, and apply these to practical and theoretical problem-solving in managing knowledge work and knowledge processes in organizations
  • can apply methods for research and professional development work relevant to research on management of knowledge work and knowledge processes in an independent manner
  • can conduct an independent, limited research or development project under supervision and in accordance with generally accepted scientific methods and relevant research-ethical norms

General competence:
The candidate

  • can analyse relevant professional and research-ethical issues related to management of knowledge work and knowledge processes
  • can apply his or her knowledge to new areas in order to manage knowledge work and knowledge processes
  • can communicate extensive independent work and masters the field’s terminology
  • can communicate professional issues, analyses and conclusions in knowledge management to both specialists as well as the public in general
  • can apply knowledge and skills in order to act as a reflecting practitioner in managing knowledge work and knowledge processes

can contribute to new thinking and innovation in organizations through managing knowledge work and knowledge processes
